Using more and more devices that connect to your WiFi requires more of your router. Routers have come a long way in the past few years, so if you haven’t replaced yours recently it may be time to consider an upgrade.
Many people are still using “N” type routers. Older routers have limitations on distance and bandwidth, whereas newer routers employ new technologies enabling them to support more devices more efficiently, delivering better performance for today’s high-bandwidth uses such as media streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc).
New routers use “AC” technology – these routers have multiple channels for transferring data, and more powerful signals, to allow more devices to have a better connection at the same time. An AC1200 router is the minimum we recommend, and as of today there is also AC1750, 3200, 5400, etc. Higher numbers do not necessarily mean faster performance, it is all dependent on the devices connecting to the router.
VGraphix can help you with this upgrade, all the way from consulting on the best router for your needs to actually installing and configuring your router, wireless printer, TV’s, streaming devices, and any other networking needs. If you notice pauses while streaming, or slow page loads when browsing the Internet, then a new router may be the answer to your problems.
