The preferred method for updating any anti-virus software is to do it automatically. Both McAfee and Norton allow for automatic updates, but this doesn't always work.

This is a manual method for updating McAfee Virus Scan.

Here is the link for McAfee's download section.

From here, Click the "Download SuperDAT (Engine Update FREE)". This is a large file, and only required for an "engine update". Next time you update, click the link labeled "Download Virus DAT File (FREE)".

Proceed to Step 1, Download Now (without Download Demon). An extra window will pop up, ignore it. Save this executable file to your hard drive. Upon completion of download, disconnect from the Internet.

Find the file you downloaded (usually a 4-digit number followed by the letters "updt.exe"). Execute the file, it will locate your McAfee and update it. The default folder where McAfee program files are located is C:\Program Files\ Network Asociates\ McAfee VirusScan.

Reboot your machine, then run a scan on ALL FILES. Do this with every new DAT download.

Download and install new DAT files weekly.
